Äimä was founded by mothers who had been diagnosed post natal depression in 1998, it wasn’t very common diagnosis back then. Äimä was founded by mothers to help other mothers with peer support and to spread information about these conditions and that is basically still our work. Äimä now has 3-5 employees and bit over 60 trained volunteers, peer support mothers who help mothers with these diagnosis. We focus totally on perinatal mental health, meaning anxiety/depression during pregnancy, postnatal depression and those mothers who have had psychosis during infancy. We offer peer support in groups and also individual peer support, face to face or remote
