“Community Based Intervention for Mental Health Care of Asylum-seekers and Refugees in Greece” program has been implemented since 2019 by the Association for Regional Development and Mental Health (EPAPSY) in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and it focuses on innovative pillars: Community Psychosocial Workforce in the Attica Region & Psychosocial Support Helpline of Pan-Hellenic reach. The team of Community Psychosocial Workers (CPW’s) consists of 10 refugees/asylum seekers, who have been trained in the use of psychosocial intervention tools (pm+ methodology) and offer their services to their adult peers in their native language (Farsi, Arabic, French, Lingala, English and Somali). This way, they form a type of a bridge between the refugee communities and the professional/institutional mental health care provision. The peer support consists of individual sessions with the beneficiaries and/or peer support group sessions and the Team undertakes low and medium risk cases (anxiety, distress and low psychopathology symptoms), while on depression or suicidal cases we refer to specialized actors we collaborate with and can provide additional support, that works together with the stable psychiatric or psychological care plan.
