Peer support in people with severe mental illness is, among other factors, a driver in the recovery process, so we want to ensure that this type of accompaniment can be given in our resources in a safe way that guarantees people’s skills and does not generate harm. For this, we have developed a training process that facilitates the acquisition of skills for peer accompaniment, through a proposal in which participants reconstruct a positive identity beyond the disease and assume new significant roles. A mixed team of professionals and users work iteratively and improve the course proposal until they find a definitive structure. After four editions and a total of 60 participants, we can say that our course proposal is valid for the training of people as Peer Supporter Agent and that, in addition, it is carried out with high levels of satisfaction. We share similar experiences with other associations, although we provide a differential value to the participants because of their participation in all phases of the project.
